Take a look in your closets. What do you see? Maybe your favorite pair of broken in jeans, a go to white blouse that you wear with EVERYTHING and of course your LBD. These are all of your timeless favorites that you cherish and love. OK now look a little closer, towards the back… you know, that stack of cheap trendy impulse buys with tags still attached that you just could not pass up. Unfortunately we have all fallen victim to pressure of the dreadful realms of fast fashion. But so what, this whole Fast Fashion thing seems harmless right? BUT, if you look at fast fashion the way Zady looks at it, maybe you’ll think twice before buying that trendy “bargain.”
If you haven't already heard of them, Zady.com is a New York based shopping site and lifestyle destination for consumers who not only care about the aesthetic of their purchases but also the quality and origins of the items they buy. We had the chance to meet Zady's co-founder a couple of weeks ago at the Decoded Fashion Meetup event. Zady was created by Soraya Darabi and Maxine Bedat with the goal to inform their customers about the conscious consumer movement and at the same time give them the opportunity to purchase more sustainable products through the website. They aren't just trying to sell you the latest trendy article of clothing that you'll end up trashing in a few months. Instead they want you to fall in love with what you are buying and cherish it for a long time.
Zady does extensive research on the items they sell making sure they are high quality and built to last. They look deep into the manufacturing process to see how the products are made, from the actual farm the cotton was grown on, to where the garment was sewn all the way to the finished piece. Each product on their site has a link that tells you the story behind it. We chose a few of our favorite US made products from Zady. You will be pleasantly surprised as to what you will learn and the connection you will make with what you are buying.
